As I began my journey in metal work, my Halmoni (“Grandmother” in Korean) had passed away. In a way, she became part of this process. These metal works kept me connected to her. There was sentimental value in the creative process when I reflected on her life and how hers influenced mine. This process and our lives, though tedious and dangerous, are also intentional and full of surprises. The memories she and I share permeate this process and work from beginning to end as the dense materials of the past transform into molten rock and are formed into a beautiful, lasting story that can be passed on to the generations to come.
