Hulu

Now with Hulu, you will be able to share your experience on all platforms. You can create and share watch lists with other users. This process helps users pick out the perfect movie for one indivdual or a large group of people within a few clicks. Watch Hulu take the stress away of picking out your next moive with these new applications.

PROBLEMAfter talking with people who regularly use Hulu, I discovered that finding a movie to watch can be aggravating and tedious. Some users even choose to not watch a show or movie because it is too difficult to find one to watch, especially in a group of people. SOLUTIONWatching a show or movie should be enjoyable from start to finish. In order to eliminate the drudgery of choosing watch to watch, I designed a functionality that automatically creates watch lists. These lists can be based on the profile watch history, genre, and from the combination of user profiles. By sharing and combining profiles, Hulu generates a watch list for these profiles. This functionality eliminates the question of what to watch and makes the process an engaging and enjoyable experience.
SCENARIOAvery and Hope want to find a movie that they both enjoy based on their Hulu profile history.

USER EXPERIENCEAvery and Hope share their user profiles to create a watch list that recommends five similar movies that they would like together. Avery did not like the first five options so she clicks shuffle to view more movie options. Once they decide on the movie Avery saves it to her watch list for them to go back to later.

ACCESSIBILITY

Color Contrast

After user testing, I noticed that it was difficult to read the movie title and information when the text overlays an image.

In order to increase readability, each image has a gradient overlay. This way the color contrast ratio of the type in comparison to the background passes the contrast standard at 8:59:1.
400% Zoom Test

Throughout my prototype testing, I included a “straw test” to simulate what the navigation experience would be like when visually impaired. Before making design changes, the user struggled to navigate each screen because the icons were not in a consistent location.

The solution to the navigational inconsistency was fixing the icons in one position. With fixed positioning, navigation of the screen at 400% becomes predictable.
